Castles & Historical Houses
Cornwall presents the visitor with a wonderful history seen through
the many old houses and castles ranging from the Iron & Bronze
Ages through the English Civil War and to more recent times. Many
of these sites are managed by either the National Trust or English
Heritiage, some are privately owned. Here is a selection of some

| St.Michael's Mount - Marazion - as described above
for its beautiful gardens, the Mount has a spectacular castle and
Benedictine Priory which overlooks the tiny harbour and village that
nestles at its base. Access at low tide by a causeway or catch one
of the ferry boats at higher tides - an excellent adventure - see

| Lanhydrock House - Near Bodmin - built in late
Victorian times (although parts of the property date back to the 17th
century) Lanhydrock House is full of wonderful period features and

| Pendennis Castle - Falmouth - built by Henry VIII
in the mid 16th century and seeing action upto WWII this well preserved

Chysauster Ancient Village - Near Penzance -
step back nearly 2000 years to see how our ancestors lived in a
village cluster that has remained in remarkable condition. Managed

Art Galleries
The lover of art is in for a treat while staying at Chy-an-Mor.
Penzance, St.Ives and the surrounding area have rich offerings
of both private and public galleries with many well known artists
regularly exhibiting. A selection from the many that are worth

| Penlee House - Penzance - originally a private
house with amazing gardens, Penzance's own art gallery and museum
can be found within 5 minutes walk of Chy-an-Mor. Regular
art exhibitions, permanent 'Newlyn School' and Lamorna Group paintings,
archaeology from West Cornwall and an extensive photographic library

| Newlyn Gallery - Newlyn (Penzance) - dating back
to 1895 and placed on the outskirts of Newlyn (close to Penzance)
the gallery offers a variety of exhibitions throughout the year and

| Tate St.Ives - St.Ives - Part of the national Tate
Galleries this modern building houses important displays of modern
and contempory art and has the added bonus of including Barbara Hepworth's

Performing Arts
Outdoor Activities
West Cornwall offers a unique blend of the outdoors with the
convenience of many local services usually associated with more
populated areas. Arriving on the train from London it is possible
to be walking on a wide open beach within minutes or be up on
the local moors exploring ancient sites and mysterious standing
stones and magical circles. Whether you want to have an action
packed adventure or a relaxing break, Chy-an-Mor is an
ideal base to experience what the great outdoors has to offer!

| Walking - The South West Coast Path runs in front
of Chy-an-Mor and offers walkers of all abilities the chance
to see some of the most beautiful parts of our coastline. The Land's
End peninsula has a number of coastal and inland walks that take
you across an ancient and varied landscape with plenty of fresh
air off of the Atlantic to blow those cobwebs away! Why not check

Bird & Wildlife Watching - West Cornwall contains
some excellent places to see birds, and is particularly well suited
for the migrations. Marazion Marshes, Hayle Estuary and Sennen Cove
are some of the more popular local spots - all easily accessible
from Chy-an-Mor.
Trips from the harbour
at Penzance take in the beautiful coastline and show maritime wildlife
including seals, dolphins, basking sharks and many many sea-birds. |
